At Obergurgl there is an exceptional old forest which nature has formed over many decades and centuries and which is worth protecting. This quiet and idyllic forest is varied and rich in animal and plant life. It is spread over more than 20 ha. and reaches from 1.950m up to 2.180m above sea level.
Walk along the path marked at 22 places, which leads you through the heart of the wonderful forest, while learning a lot of interesting facts about the local vegetation. This forest has always been an important treasure worthy of protection to the local people and was therefore declared a natural monument in 1963.
